Donald Ross Stewart of Metcalfe Gardens in St. Thomas, in his 86th year, completed his final journey and is now at rest. Don passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018 at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital with family by his side. Don leaves behind 6 grateful Children Ron Stewart (Linda), Donna Dowding (Jim), Pat Huston (Larry), John Stewart (Barbara), Don Stewart (Jill), Mary Kay Burt (Tim), 13 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. Don is predeceased by his wife Shirley Stewart in 2015, Mary Stewart the mother of his 6 children in 2012, his father Clarence Stewart, his Mother Hilda Bell, Step father Gordon Bell and son-in-law Lenard Case. Don grew up, raised a family and farmed in the Melbourne area for many years. After Don met Shirley, they started a Chinchilla operation and built a home in the Shedden area. After many years of hard work Don and Shirley travelled extensively throughout North America. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570). As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada. A celebration of life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #510, 21884 Melbourne Road, Melbourne on Sunday, February 4, 2018. A short memorial service will begin at 3:00 pm with fellowship and refreshments to follow. Please join the family to celebrate a life well lived.
