PUDDICOMBE, Donald Charles
It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of Donald Charles
Puddicombe on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at the age of 91. Don passed away
peacefully at the Cove Guest Home, where he resided since May of this year. Born
December 14, 1926, in Sydney, he was the son of the late William and May
(Carson) Puddicombe.
Don retired for Sydney Steel in 1986 after more than 40 years. He was a member
of the Sydney Steelworkers & Pensioners Club, where he always enjoyed playing
pool, a game of darts or cards. On a warm sunny day, you could always find him
waxing and polishing his car, something he took great pride in. He was happiest
when surrounded by family and friends, always the prankster and jokester in the
room. He had a smile for everyone and was a true gentleman.
He is survived by his step-daughter, Joanne Marinelli, Sydney, with whom he
resided for the past 23 years; daughters, Arlene (Charlie) Cote, Ardith (Ed) O’Neil,
both of Montreal, QC, Jo-Ann Gauntley, Edson, AB; sons, Glenn and Robin,
Montreal, QC; sister, Frances Coish (late Donald), Guelph, ON; four grandchildren,
Cindy, Richard, Nathan and Mandi, and four great-grandchildren. He is also
survived by sister-in-law, Patricia (Dannie) Dunlop, Howie Centre; brother-in-law,
David MacIntyre, Southside Boularderie.
Also left to mourn his loss is special nephew, Bill and Shirley Puddicombe,
Frenchvale, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by his loving wife, Marie (Marinelli);
son, Bruce; grandson, Jason; brother, Robert; sister, Jennie Mallidine (late Jim);
brothers-in-law, Joseph (late Lois), Robert, John R. (Rudy); sisters-in-law, Bernice
MacDougall (late Murdock), Muriel MacIntyre, Donna Marinelli.
The family would like to thank the Cove Guest Home for their exemplary care and
compassion shown to Don over the last five months, and also to City Homemakers
for their support and assistance over the last four years. Heartfelt thanks and
appreciation also to Diane McDonald, Don’s private caregiver for the past three
years, whose support and care was unwavering.
