Obituary for
Donald Calvin Nicolle
It is with much sadness the family announce the death of Donald Nicolle, age 87, who passed away peacefully on Monday, October 1, 2018, in the General Campus of the Ottawa Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario. Don is survived by his loving partner, Adela Pop; his son, Mark; and his brother, Gerald Nicolle (Moncton, New Brunswick). He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruth, his son, Terry, his second wife, Marlene, his brother, Albert (Halifax) and his sisters, Elsie Ayres (Dartmouth) and Marie MacDonald (Windsor, NS).
Don was born on February 14, 1931 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to parents, Frances (Dominic) and Walter Nicolle. He joined the RCAF in March of 1948 and served for 26 years, before retiring in the rank of master warrant officer in June of 1974.
Don’s second career was general manager of the Ottawa Branch of Lakeshore Mayflower for many years. Such was his love of the moving business that he continued as a consultant even after his retirement.
An active member of Lions Club International, Don will be remembered by his wide circle of friends for his gentlemanly behavior, his sense of humour and his love of golf.
Funeral Arrangements: Visitation will occur at Hulse, Playfair & McGarry Funeral Home, at 1200 Ogilvie Rd., Ottawa on Wednesday, October 10, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. The funeral service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home at 11:00 a.m., and a reception will follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Don’s life.
The interment of Don’s ashes will take place in the National Military Cemetery at Beechwood at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 12.
