DOLORES MARY (LOL) BECKER
1930 – 2018
Lol Becker, beloved mother, grandmother (Oma), sister, aunt, and friend, passed peacefully away on July 4 after a brief illness at the age of 88. Predeceased by her husband, Ernst (Ernie) Becker, parents, Thomas and Anna McCarthy, siblings, Cecil (Bud), Bill, Patricia, Noreen, and Moya. Left with fond and loving memories are her daughter, Stephanie (Gerald) Rockwood, and sons, Chris and Joe (Rose Filipchuk), grandchildren Mark, Hilary, Stephen, Jolene, Trisha, Samantha, Jesse, and Erin, great-grandchildren Cadence, Michael, Harvey, and Everett, sister Sheila (Phil Power), and many nieces and nephews.
Lol was born in Grand Falls on June 12, 1930, in her family home above the Grand Falls Drug Store, where her father was the owner-pharmacist. She was a lifelong resident of Grand Falls and was active in her community, church and bridge clubs. She delighted many with her wonderful talents as a baker. Many students remember Mrs. Becker from her days as the school secretary at St. Mike’s. She was known and loved by many for her gentle, caring nature, and she will be missed.
“Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.”
