OBITUARY
Dianne Spencer
14 April , 1953 – 7 May , 2018
On Monday May 7, 2018, Dianne passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre after a lengthy illness at the age of 65 years.
She was predeceased by her parents – Henry Friesen and Eva Doerksen and brother Cornelius Friesen. Dianne is lovingly remembered by her husband of 43 years, Jim, and her children Erin (Mark) Dupuis, Andrew (Josie), Lisa (Jon) Whitehouse; 8 grandchildren, Eliya, Noa and Shayla Dupuis, Michela and Carina Spencer, and Makenzie, Xavier, and Finley Whitehouse, as well as her large and loving family.
Dianne was born April 14, 1953 in Altona, MB. She was brought up on the family farm in Neuhorst and moved to Winnipeg after high school. She met Jim shortly thereafter and they were married in 1974. Two years later, they moved to Saskatoon and started a family. In the early 80s the family moved back to Winnipeg. Dianne was a devoted stay at home mom, with many interests including Christian Women’s club, curling, and gardening. As the children got older, she went back to work, first at Royal Bank, then at Winnipeg Mennonite Elementary School. She loved her time at WMES, and the wonderful friends she met there.
Dianne retired 5 years ago and was thrilled to fill her time with many wonderful interests and friends. She volunteered at the Crisis Pregnancy Centre, where the staff and volunteers became close friends. She also was on the Host Team at her home church – Grant Memorial, where she attended for 34 years. Fitness had always been a huge part of Dianne’s life, and in retirement she was able to combine that with her love of socializing, joining a group from the Reh-Fit Centre regularly. Jim and Dianne also did a lot of travelling throughout the years, but especially once Dianne retired. Her greatest passion was for her children and grandchildren, and she loved every minute she could spend with them.
Funeral service will be held on Monday May 14, 2018 at 10:00am at Grant Memorial Baptist Church, 877 Wilkes Avenue, with reception and burial to follow.
The family would like to thank Dr. Popowich, Michelle Elwood and all of the staff at CancerCare and Women’s Hospital for their excellent care over the past 16 months.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
