January 20, 2018 – Kelowna, BC
Anna, beloved wife, mother and Nonna passed away peacefully at the Village at Mill Creek at the age of 87. She was born May 21, 1930, in Caprafrico, Teramo, Italy. In December 1956, she married her husband Giovanni. Anna immigrated to Canada with her 18-month old daughter in 1959, where they reunited with Giovanni, who had immigrated prior, in search of work and a better life. Anna worked the night shift for many years at Chicken On The Way, until early retirement to babysit her first grandson. In September 1979, the family moved to Kelowna. She was a devoted wife, caring, loving mother and Nonna. Anna shared the joys of old traditions with her husband and family, the fruits of their labour evident by their meticulous rose and vegetable garden, abundant fruit trees in their backyard and homemade pasta dishes with their treasured tomato sauces. Anna is survived by her loving husband Giovanni; two children: Nicolina (Carlo) Di Girolamo, Vittorio (Jacky) and daughter-in-law Mirella. Also survived by those who brought her so much joy, seven grandchildren: Dwayne (Laurie) Gadway, Anita (Shaun) Kohut, Christina (Trent) Beaudin, Jonathan (Felicia) and Deanna Di Girolamo, Oliver and Katelyn Di Marcello; as well as her seven great-grandchildren: Olivia and Luca Gadway, Donna, Vincent, Dezarae and Enrico Kohut and Elayna Di Girolamo. Anna is also survived by her loving sister Giuditta Michini of Italy; sisters-in-law, both in Italy and Calgary; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Giuditta Faragalli, father Carmine Michini, stepmother Angeladea Giacchetta, sister Barbina Olivieri; brothers: Cesare and Sante Michini. Anna was also sadly predeceased by her son Enrico “Harry” in 2014 and great-granddaughter Angela in 2010. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Village at Mill Creek, especially in the Shannon and Oyama Rooms, for the compassionate and loving care provided to Anna during her stay there. Prayers will be held at St. Charles Garnier Parish, 3645 Benvoulin Road, Kelowna, BC, on Thursday, January 25th at 6:00 pm; where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 26th at 10:30 am. Entombment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, 2850 Dry Valley Road, Kelowna, BC. In respect for Anna’s love of flowers, floral tributes are welcome or those wishing may make a donation to the Alzheimer Society of BC, www.alzheimer.ca/en/bc.
