Desmond was born and raised in Derry, Northern Ireland. Son of the late William and late Monica Carroll. Loving brother of Angela (David) Liston, Michael and Anne (John) Lawes. Predeceased by brother Kevin (Terry). Loving spouse of Georgina McLucas. Proud father of Vincent (Marian), Brian (Ann), Una (Barry) Keogh. With his bride, Georgina, Desmond emigrated to Canada in 1961. Joined St. Paul’s staff as a teacher, then as a principal. Acquired a BA at Waterloo Lutheran University and a MEd at OISE in Toronto. Successfully completing written and oral examinations at the Ministry of Education, he received his Supervisory Officer Certificate. Appointed Superintendent with Simcoe County Catholic School Board in 1977. Retired in 1992. Began Diaconate training at St. Augustine’s Seminary. Ordained Deacon in 1998. He celebrated his 20th Anniversary as a married Permanent Deacon at St. Paul’s on June 20, 2018.
Resting at W. John Thomas Funeral Home, 244 Victoria St. E., Alliston on Thursday December 27, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Paul the Apostle Church, 190 King St. S., Alliston on Friday December 28, at 10 am. Interment in St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery, Alliston. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Church, Alliston.
