Died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at KW Health Centre of Grand River Hospital on his 86th birthday, Thursday, March 29, 2018.
Derek was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Janice Brisland (nee Belton), and his wife of 18 years, JoAnne Paciocco-Brisland. Derek is survived by his children Anne Facey (Shane Verbiski), Richard (Monica) Brisland, Paul (Catherine) Brisland, Claire Brisland (Douglas Griffioen) and Christopher (Tami) Brisland as well as JoAnne’s children, Stephen (Laurie) Paciocco, David (Pamela) Paciocco, Brian (Darlene) Paciocco, Cheryl Desjardins (Dan Iozzo) and Carole (Murray) Stephen. Derek is also survived by his loving sister Angela (Bob) Yeats of Oregon, 25 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and was predeceased by his son-in-law Tim Facey and brother Rex Brisland.
Derek was a devoted father and successful electrical engineer. He obtained his Master of Divinity and was an ordained Deacon of the Catholic Church. Derek had many passions and hobbies, however, later in life professional storytelling and painting were his main loves.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Derek with his family during visitation at St. Agatha RC Church, 1839 Notre Dame Drive, St. Agatha, on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. The Vigil Prayer service will follow at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Wednesday, April 4 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Cremation and a private family interment will take place at a later date.
