Obituary of Dennis Lindsay
LINDSAY: Dennis John –
A resident of Chatham and formerly of Dresden, Dennis Lindsay passed away at the Chatham-Kent Hospice with his family at his side on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the age of 75.
Born in Dresden, Dennis was the son of the late Wilfred and Bessie (Chesney) Lindsay.
Treasured husband of 57 years to his high school sweetheart Frances ‘Fran’ Lindsay (nee Trinacty).
Dearly loved father to Karen Killby (Kirk) of Waterloo, Steven Lindsay (Denise) of Chatham and Kathren McCutcheon (Darcy) of Florence.
Proud Pappa of Amanda Killby, Ryan Killby, Ashley Lindsay (fiance Adam Ludolph), Michael Lindsay and Macklyn ‘Mac’ McCutcheon. Step-grandfather to Stefanie Copeland (Justin) and Kyle Charron.
Great-grandfather to Max Copeland.
Dear brother to David Lindsay (Karen), Ralph Lindsay (Madeline) and Dana Vandermeersch (Al). Predeceased by his brother Richard ‘Herb’ Lindsay. Brother-in-law to Janet Howell.
Also missed by nieces, nephews, friends, extended family and his hockey community.
Dennis’s life centred around his love for the game of hockey. As a player of the game for 40 years he loved to talk about playing on the frozen Sydenham River and telling stories that began with “I remember this one game”. His love and knowledge of the game naturally progressed to coaching. For him, coaching was about the kids and the pride they felt when they reached their full potential and realized their worth for their team. His career as an arena manager in both Dresden and Walpole Island was the perfect fit for him. He believed that it was his duty to provide kids with the best ice facility as possible. Dennis was a people person. He touched the lives of so many people whether it was at the arena, the golf course or at the coffee shop. He will be greatly missed.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 2:00 – 5:00pm and 7:00 – 9:00pm. Vigil Prayers will be held Friday at 6:45pm.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ursula’s Catholic Church, 205 Tweedsmuir Ave West, Chatham at 10:30am on Saturday, October 27, 2018 with Fr. Jim Higgins celebrant. Cremation has taken place.
Donations made in memory of Dennis to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, London Health Sciences Foundation (London Regional Cancer Clinic ) or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
