It is with a heavy heart that our family announces the passing of our dad, Dennis Carl Frederick Halstead. Dad passed away surrounded by love on May 2, 2018 at the age of 80. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Colleen; loved children Dennis Jr. (Denny) (Michele), Danielle and Dennine Giles (Marty); adored grandchildren Chase Halstead, Branden Gartley (Jamie), Brett Gartley, Austin Giles, Matt Giles; and new great grandson Wells. Dad was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on February 2, 1938… and as a young child moved to Okotoks, Alberta where he lived until he joined the Air Force at the age of 17. It was during his time stationed in Elmer, Ontario that he met the love of his life, Colleen, and married on January 25, 1958. Dad was a proud member of the Calgary Police Service for over 30 years retiring in February of 1988. Dad loved his job as a policeman and through his service became recognized as an incredible humanitarian. Shortly after joining the force he quickly recognized the need to help those having a hard time. Dad started his own food bank out of his garage in the mid ‘60’s and it continued until February of this year marking over 50 years. The thousands of people he helped was a labor of love that we all recognize as exceptional. We have always been and will continue to be so proud of the man we had the privilege of calling husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa. Dad’s service will be held at the Evangelical Free Church in Okotoks, AB (28 Westland Road) at 2pm on May 8, 2018. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Calgary Food Bank (www.calgaryfoodbank.com) or the Wood Buffalo Food Bank (www.woodbuffalofoodbank.com).
