Obituary for Dean Robinson
Dean Robinson, beloved husband of Norma Robinson (nee McKnight), passed away at the age of 93 with his family by his side on Friday, March 30, 2018. Dean leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Norma, of 65 years. They were married in Kindersley, SK on July 17, 1952. He is also survived by his children, Brian (Diane) Robinson of Gull Lake, SK, Carla (Carley) MacAskill of Ottawa, ON and Sharon (Lawrence) Robertson of Maple Creek, SK; his grandchildren, Chelsea and Brett Robinson (Brian), Jason and Shannon MacAskill (Carla) and Tyler Ross and Jenae Robertson (Sharon); as well as great-granddaughter, Jayleen (Tyler) Ross. Dean was predeceased by his parents, Glenn and Barbara Robinson; his sisters, Vivian McDonald and Hazel Salewski; his brothers, Clayton (Swede), Gordon, and Loyde Robinson; his brothers-in-law, Tom McDonald and John Salewski; his sisters-in-law, Loretta, Bernice and Anne Robinson; as well as his grandson, Darryl Ross. Dean was born in Swift Current, SK on August 4, 1924. The family (parents and older sister, Vivian) moved to Lemsford ferry the same year. Dean attended the Goldeye rural school, then worked on various farms and ranches until he joined the army in 1942. His army training took place in Borden, ON for a year, then Dean was sent overseas for two years with the Regina Rifle Regiment. Upon his return, he started working for an electrician before joining the Saskatchewan Power Corporation. His work started with the rural electrification program then most of his career was as a District Operator at Eston, SK. Dean retired in Eston after 35 years. Dean and Norma enjoyed travelling to many places including Hawaii, Alaska, The Maritimes, Holland and spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona. In 1995, they relocated from Eston to Medicine Hat where they enjoyed many years with friends and family. Dean’s main hobby was building furniture and cabinetry, mainly with oak. He built many pieces including bedroom suites, kitchen cabinets and china cabinets. He was also very helpful with any jobs the family required him to do, including installing flooring, bathrooms, building sheds, just to mention a few. Dean was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Eston), the Eston Fire Department and the Eston Television Cable Company.
