Obituary Overview
David Leckey
1925 – 2018
Our dear father, David Leckey, dear husband of his late wife Rose Leckey, awakened into eternity in the early morning of May 20, 2018. With God’s grace and faith and the love from his family and friends he met the challenges he faced with courage, dignity, acceptance and grace.
David was predeceased by his dear wife Rose, his mother Gladys, and father Thomas.
David was born in Stroud, Gloucestershire and arrived in Canada with his parents, as a young boy. Following in his father’s and uncle’s footsteps, he enlisted in the military, Royal Canadian Air Force and became a Legion member. Years later he met his lovely wife Rose and they resided in Winnipeg, MB where David served at Wing 17. They soon welcomed their three beautiful sons in succession, David, Kerry and Robin. They transferred to Trenton, ON, Wing 1, and there a pretty daughter, Mary Lee was born. Their next destinations were Marville, France and Lahr, Germany where they resided until 1970, ending David’s 20 year military service. The family returned to Canada where he gained employment with various aviation companies. In later years, the family grew and thus their lives took them to other parts of Canada. Travelling, visits and reunions became the norm.
His family will always remember him with fondness and are left with warm memories of their father. Left to cherish his memory are his four children David, Kerry, Robin, and Mary-Lee; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, as well as many dear and close friends. Dad was a handsome, kind, patient, quiet, and gentle man with a great sense of humour and adventure. He loved animals, nature, photography, travelling, history and always had a book or magazine at hand.
A service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home on Monday, May 28, 2018 at 10:00 am with interment and reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg No Kill Shelter, or any other animal shelters.
