David Fields Chapman 1920 2018

Obituary for
David Chapman
In loving memory of David Fields Chapman, 98 years, who passed away peacefully with loving family at his side on Saturday, August 4th, 2018 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury. Cherished husband of Audrey Chapman (predeceased 2017) for 72 years. Dearly beloved father of Wendy (husband Len McNamara) and Bev of Sudbury and Laurie (husband Randy Edger) of Millbrook, Ontario. Loving grandfather of Scott McNamara of Stamford, Connecticut, and Kevin and Courtney McNamara of Vaughan, Ontario. Also missed by sisters-in-law Pat and Shirley Chapman and many nieces and nephews.
David was born in Copper Cliff, Ontario, on January 27, 1920 to Bill and Dot Chapman (both predeceased), along with four siblings (all predeceased). During WWII, he enlisted with the RCAF and was posted to Gander, Newfoundland, where he serviced the aircraft. He met Audrey and they married in 1944. After the war, they settled in Sudbury where David enjoyed a long career as Supervisor of Hourly Employment at INCO before retiring in 1981. In his 98 years, David lived a full and wonderful life. He loved people and made friends with ease everywhere he went. He enjoyed travelling and visited many countries with Audrey and friends. He was an accomplished athlete, playing baseball, hockey, and until recently, golf. As well, he was a devoted and very active member of St. Andrew’s United Church. He will always be remembered as a consummate storyteller with a phenomenal memory. But family was always the center of his life as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
The family wishes to thank Dr. T. Urban, Jennifer, and the staff at Brady Clinic for their many years of excellent care. We also deeply appreciated the wonderful and compassionate care that David received from the 7th floor HSN staff, the staff at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre, and, especially, Dr. Singh and the other amazing doctors, nurses, and PSWs of the HSN 4th floor Palliative Care Unit. Very special thanks to Sherry, our “angel”.
Heartfelt thanks, too, to Margaret, Sandra, and Howard for their treasured friendships and to the Reverend Catherine Somerville for her faithful support.
A memorial service will be held in St. Andrew’s United Church, 111 Larch Street, Sudbury, on Saturday, August 11th, 2018 at 2:30pm. Friends may gather at the church after 1pm Saturday. Cremation with interment in the family plot at the Park Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Andrew’s United Church, Health Sciences North Foundation, the Sudbury SPCA, or the charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
Order Flowers
