Obituary Overview
Darlene Cecilia Banke
Darlene Cecelia Banke (nee Livingston) was born on Wednesday, January 4, 1928 in Humboldt, SK, and passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert, SK, at the age of 90 years. Darlene leaves to mourn: her son, Don (Marilyn) Hoffman, and their children, Keri (children Brittany, Jayde and Ethan) and Kimberley (daughter Shylo); her daughter, Lynne (Bill) McDonald, and their daughter Lindsay (Scott Thain) McDonald; her only surviving sibling, Ramona Fischl of Middle Lake; as well as many nieces and nephews; her favourite niece, Twyla Caissy; her dear friends, Bertha Given, Sharon Phillips and Vicky Niemetz who picked her up for regular coffee dates and visited her regularly at the Herb Bassett Home. Their drop-in visits made her days so much brighter and we thank them for their kindness. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Anna (nee Schweikl) Livingston; by her husbands, Bernard Hoffman, Jack Elsey and Ralph Banke; twelve of her siblings and their spouses; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom grew up in Middle Lake, SK where she attended grade school, and later St. Ursula’s Academy in Bruno for high school. She married Bernard Hoffman in 1947 and they moved to Ontario. Their son Don was born in Thunder Bay and daughter Lynne in Nipigon. She later returned to Saskatchewan where she raised them as a single mom. They lived briefly in Middle Lake, Saskatoon, Humboldt and finally in Prince Albert. She enjoyed her work with Harradence and Longworth, the pharmacy at the old Victoria Union Hospital, and the YWCA before retiring in 2002. She and Ralph made a number of trips to Ontario to visit his kids and grandkids who she loved dearly. Her stepson Duncan and his wife Judy stayed in touch regularly in the years after Ralph passed away and she looked forward to hearing from them. A special thank you to all of the staff of the Herb Bassett Home for their loving care and friendship during our Mom’s final months. Their kindness to her and to us will never be forgotten. She got to know all of them very well and was so appreciative of their help. At Darlene’s request, there will be a private family interment at a later date. Donations in memory of Darlene may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home in Prince Albert, SK, 306-764-2727, Don Moriarty, Funeral Director.
