OBITUARY
Mr. Daniel Whiteford McClure
December 10, 1924 – August 2, 2018
We are deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Daniel Whiteford McClure on August 1, 2018, at Middlechurch Personal Care Home with family by his side.
Daniel will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Carolyn (Verne), grandson Christopher, sisters-in-law Norah and Anne and many other family and friends. Daniel was predeceased by his wife Louisa May in 2008 and son Gordon in 2011.
Daniel was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and after starting his career at the Grain Exchange, entered the Air Force in 1941 and became a lifelong distinguished member of Branch 215 of the Royal Canadian Legion. In 1944 Daniel started working with Winnipeg Hydro as a meter reader. Daniel worked his entire career with Winnipeg Hydro and retired from a management position.
In August of 1948 Daniel married Louisa May Corbett, the love of his life. In addition to helping Louisa May raise two loving children, Gordon and Carolyn, Daniel was deeply involved in coaching and officiating youth soccer and lacrosse and timekeeping hockey across Winnipeg. Daniel was most proud of his selection to officiate soccer for the 1967 Pan Am Games in Winnipeg. Long after his coaching days were over Daniel continued to make a lasting impression on his former players.
In their retirement years, Daniel and Louisa enjoyed relaxing at the family cottage at Belair, making trips to the casino and taking every opportunity to spend time with their only grandchild, Christopher.
Special thanks to Barrie and Marvelle McPherson for their enduring love and friendship. We appreciate everything you did for and meant to Daniel.
We wish to thank all the management and staff at Middlechurch Personal Care Home for their care, compassion and kindness in supporting Daniel over the years.
At Daniel’s request, cremation has taken place. A private family tribute will be held at a later date.
Flowers are declined. Donations in Daniel’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
Daniel, we will miss you dearly. We all love you and will love you forever. Rest in peace.
