‘Kenneth’
Ken Nicoll, of Elora, passed away peacefully at
the Elliott Nursing Home in Guelph on January 18, 2018, in his
95th year. He is survived
by his loving wife Constance (Phillips) Nicoll of Elora; his sons
David Kenneth of Oakville, James Roger and his wife Khanh Linh, also
of Oakville, his daughters-in-law Marie and Lydia; his grandchildren;
Jennifer, Mara, James, Matthew, and Sarah; his sister, Grace (Nicoll)
Smellie of London, England; by sisters-in-law; Phyllis Phillips of
Pennant in Wales, and Mabel (Phillips) Oram of Weston. He is
predeceased by his sons Philip Francis in 1997, and Douglas Victor in
2015.
Ken served in WW2 as a Navigator in Mosquito
aircraft flying missions over Germany, France, Norway, Denmark,
Holland, Austria, and Belgium. Ken emigrated to Canada from
London, England after the war, sailing on the Aquitania on July 27th,
1948. He found work with Bell Telephone emptying nickels
from payphones and soon afterwards met Connie, the love of his life.
He rose up through the ranks, reaching the position of
Traffic Engineer, which included assignments in the Philippine Islands
and Saudi Arabia. Ken was an avid runner and later a walker,
which no doubt contributed to his longevity. He was an
amazingly patient, loving, and supportive father and husband.
Ken was passionately involved in the formative years of the
Alma Bible Church, before opening at its present location in
the year 2000. He attended services regularly, gave
sermons and managed the church finances.
In lieu of flowers,
donations to the Christian Blind Mission in Ken’s name would
be appreciated. Ken will be honoured at a memorial service
that will take place at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL
– McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street,
Guelph on Saturday, January 27 at 12:00 p.m.
(with visiting for one hour prior). Reception with food and
