With sadness we announce the death of Cynthia Anne McCormack (née Krivoshein) on July 16, 2018.
Cynthia filled her life with purpose and passion. She believed in building community and giving to it. She was a devoted member of Beta Sigma Phi. For decades she raised money for cancer research as a volunteer with Daffodil Days, and she was proud to volunteer at Hospice Peterborough. She was a feminist who abhorred homophobia and racism; she wanted to live to fight the Fords and Trumps of our world.
Cynthia is survived by Murray, her husband of fifty-two years and the love of her life; by her children, Melissa and Derek; by siblings Laurie Krivoshein (Dorothy), Sandra Johnston (Eric), and Kevan Krivoshein (Lori-Ann). She adored her nieces and nephews and her great-nieces and -nephews. She considered Jason McBride a second son, and treasured his family as her own. Many people thought of her as an honourary mom.
Born in Borden, SK in 1943, she was raised primarily in Thunder Bay, and spent her adult life in Peterborough. She owned and operated a series of successful businesses, including Stedman’s (Lakefield), Kettle Creek Canvas Company (Peterborough), and Dixie Lee (Fenelon Falls). She and Murray travelled across Europe, the United States, and Canada, often in the company of dear friends Linda and Doug Reynolds. She dreamed of going to the Galápagos Islands; maybe her spirit is there now.
The family appreciates the care given her by Hospice Peterborough, St. Elizabeth Health Care, and the sisters of Delta Beta Master. A long list of distinguished doctors kept her alive and kicking for a long time: we are grateful to them all. She died at home with her family around her, as she wished. She was not afraid.
A celebration of her life will be held at Mapleridge Recreation Centre on September 16, 2018 from 1-3 pm. Donations in her name may be made to Hospice Peterborough.
Rest well, our dear one – we love you.
