Cora Jean Burke
1947-2018
Burke, Cora
Jean, 70, of Antigonish passed away suddenly on April
25, 2018.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter
of Jean (Deviller) and the late James Harte.
Cora and her husband, Al, moved
their family to Antigonish in 1973 where they owned and
operated Antigonish Optical for many years. Cora was very
community-minded and supported many groups, including
Scotia Highland Dancers and N.S. Heart and Stroke. She
was a life-member of the Kinettes. Cora was a friend to many, loved to
laugh, loved to travel, and loved Christmas. She enjoyed her card
group, was an avid rug-hooker, and loved the different projects she
did with her sisters. Mostly, though, Cora loved her grandkids and was
proud of everything they accomplished.
She is survived by her husband,
Alphonse; children, Cathy (Lyndon) Burke-Crowe, East Mapleton; Shelene
(Greg) MacDonald, Antigonish; and Jason (Ginette), Antigonish;
grandchildren, Cassie, Alex, and Mathew; Calum, James, and Brennan;
and Emma; siblings, Jim (Sheila),
Edmonton, AB; Greg (Judy),
Horne’s Road; Colette (Alan) Hutt, Catalone; and Judy (Max)
Legault, Denise (Billy) Burke, Ian (Elaine), and Darlene (Dennis)
Organ, all of Louisburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by brother,
David.
Visitation will be held Friday in
C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish, from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9pm. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 2:00pm in St.
Ninian Cathedral, Reverend Donald MacGillivray presiding. Burial in
the parish cemetery at a later date.
In Memoriam, donations to
Antigonish Food Bank, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or CACL Antigonish
appreciated. Online condolences: www.clcurry.com
