Clyde William Hughes 19272018

Clyde William Hughes
1927-2018
Clyde Hughes of the Veteran’s Health Centre passed
away on Thursday, January 25, 2018 surrounded by his family. Born in
Barker’s Point, NB., he was the son of the late John and
Mabel (Howland) Hughes and husband of the late Patricia (Noble)
Hughes.
Clyde had a passion for hard work, he started working in his
teens for the railroad, followed by enlisting in the army in his early
twenties which lead to being a Veteran of the Korean War. After his
career in the army he was employed with NB Power until his retirement.
Being retired was not enough work for Clyde, he soon found himself a
new job as a Commissioner at the No.5 Depot and then the Air Traffic
Control Center until his second retirement at the age of
75.
He enjoyed gardening in his backyard which seemed to get
bigger every year and had enough produce to feed the
neighbourhood. He loved hosting his annual July1 garage
party with lots of food, home brew and few stories. Clyde had a
passion for good food, a large appetite with an equally large
metabolism and a daily routine of exercise and walking. He
especially enjoyed travelling, watching CNN, sitting in the sun,
spending time with his family and was very proud of his
grandchildren.
Clyde was best known as being friendly, caring, unique and
full of advice out of concern and compassion. Some of his
advice came in these popular phrases: watch the cars, everyone needs a
little direction and save your money.
He will be dearly missed by his family; son, John of
Petitcodiac; daughter, Susan McAdam (Paul) of Riverview;
grandchildren, Justin, Jenna and Jake; sister, Jackie MacPherson;
sisters in-law Connie Dasset, Dawn Jack, and Joanne
Gladwish, all of Fredericton; as well as several nieces and
nephews.
He is predeceased by his wife, Patricia; his parents;
sisters, Phyllis Burns, Pauline Murray; brothers, Hyulett
« Duke », Ewart, and Mark « Bunny ».
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at
Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd.,
Riverview (869-2007) on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 12:00pm to
1:00pm. The Riverview Vets & Armed Forces Association will
hold a memorial service at 1:00pm with the funeral service to follow.
The Venerable Brent Ham will be officiating. The interment will take
place in Elmwood Cemetery later in the spring. Donations can be made
to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be expressed at www.cobbsfuneralhome.ca
The family would like to express a huge thank you to the
Veteran’s Health Care Centre for taking such good care of
Clyde for the last six years, we appreciate how you treated him like
family, you are truly angels in our eyes and we are forever
grateful.
