Obituary of Christopher Triantafilou
Triantafilou, Christopher
1957 – 2018
Died suddenly and peacefully on Thursday, October 25, 2018 in Grand River Hospital at the age of 61 years.
Beloved husband of Betsy Triantafilou (nee Cooney) and proud father to three beautiful daughters, Kayla, Georgia and Lily, who were the light of his eyes. Cherished brother of Gina Kalemis, Tom Triantafilou and Jim Triantafilou (Judy). Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Chris was well known in the University Football circuit and served as Head Coach at University of Waterloo from 1998 – 2006. Chris attended Wilfrid Laurier University and played as a defensive back from 1978 – 1983. Chris truly lived and breathed football and you could always find him reviewing old game tapes and mentoring young coaches in his spare time.
Weekends were sacred to him and were always spent taking care of his daughters, spending time with his wife Betsy, and catching up on sports! Chris would follow his daughters’ extracurricular aspirations as closely as he would university football. Whether in the field of play or not, Chris was always a coach; it was his one true passion. In the span of Chris’ 30+ year career in Athletics and Recreation in Waterloo Region, Chris felt fortunate to have mentored and coached so many young adults with post-secondary education, a feat that he was truly proud of.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Chris with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, October 28 and Monday, October 29 from 1 – 3 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. A private funeral service with his family will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.
Condolences for the family and donations to ‘Coach Tri’s Scholarship for Athletic Success’ will be accepted online at www.laurieralumni.ca/triantafilou, or in person through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
