Chip Sweeting
Chip Sweeting was born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan on October 7, 1928 and spent all of his life in his beloved hometown. He never liked sitting in a desk at school and much preferred the out-of-doors as his classroom. After quitting school in the 9th grade, he worked with his Dad in Sweeting’s Flower Shop and also assisted at the Sask. Power Company in Gull Lake. Then in 1950, he joined S.G.I. as an agent selling insurance, real estate, and car licenses for 30 years. He married the love of his life, Betty Watts, from Hazlet on June 28, 1952. They had two daughters, Lynnette and Terry. When the girls started school, Betty joined Chip at the office. They kept the customers happy by saving their favourite license plate numbers. Betty enjoyed making floats to advertise S.G.I. in the annual 24th of May parade. Chip and Betty were active together in the Chamber of Commerce as well as the Elks/Royal Purple. Chip was also head of the EMO, served as a volunteer fireman for 30 years and was an ambulance driver. Betty and Chip retired in 1980. During retirement years, they travelled extensively to many countries. They also enjoyed their winter homes in Texas, Mesa and Yuma. The many friends who joined them added fond memories to their travel adventures. In later life, Chip acquired Parkinson’s and spent his remaining years in the Autumn House and the Gull Lake and District Nursing Home where he received wonderful support and care. Chip always had a friendly smile and a quick sense of humour. He loved raising his family in Gull Lake and spending playful hours with his family, often in the great out-of-doors. He will be fondly remembered.The Memorial Service was held Saturday, June 16,2018 at the Gull Lake & Community Recreational Complex with Carola Anderson officiating.
