On the morning of September 27, 2018, Charles Lionel “Evan” Spears passed away at Georgian Bay General Hospital with his daughter Margaret by his side. Born in Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia, December 16, 1935, he was the son of Lionel and Nora Spears, predeceased by his infant sister Margaret, brother Jerry, sister Inez and survived by his friend and sister, Dolores Singer.
Evan was proud of his small village roots that helped shape him be self-reliant, energetic, determined, willing to take on a challenge and unafraid to speak his mind. Evan liked hunting and fishing and the Toronto Blue Jays. He loved to walk, and he loved cars, especially Hondas. He loved so many things but nothing more than the Toronto Maple Leaf’s. Evan was sure the Leaf’s never received a penalty they deserved, and the family was well versed in epitaphs from a man who would explode with uniquely crafted combinations of expletives at any slight of a Maple Leaf or goal against them.
Evan will be incredibly missed by his devoted wife Lorraine (Singer) for over 60 years, children Brenda (Mike), Margaret, Pam (Dwayne), and Mac; his grandchildren Amber (Troy), Chad (Aidan), James, Kirk and Matt; the babies, Nolan, Joel and Georgia.
Evan appreciated the help he received from his physician, Dr. Richard Thomas and the nurses of Bayshore Home Health especially, Mary Ellen and Bobbie. The family would also like to thank the Team at Royal Victoria Regional Cancer Center and the nurses of GBGH 2East who helped him in his final days. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Royal Victoria Regional Cancer Center. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 27, 2018 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Hunter and Anglers Club.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Charles Lionel Spears ‘Evan’ 2018.
