Charles Eugene Kilbank
July 20, 1937 – March 10, 2018
The Life of Charles Eugene Kilbank
Charles (Chuck) Kilbank was born July 20, 1937 in Bowsman, MB. Throughout his childhood he lived in Flin Flon, MB and Thunder Bay, ON. As a child, during the summers, he went to visit and help out on his sister Gertie’s farm in Bowsman.
In 1954 he joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served for 5 years in the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers division in Kingston, ON, Shilo, MB and Calgary, AB.
Sixty years ago, on March 6, 1958, he met Elizabeth Gail Mitchell from Douglas, MB. They met at the Paladium Dance Hall, Brandon. They both loved dancing to blue grass and country music. They married on December 20, 1958.
Their life together started in Calgary, AB then they moved to Brandon, MB where they lived from 1960 to 1973. They lived close to Gail’s family where Chuck enjoyed family life and a special relationship with his in-laws, Birkett and Mossie Mitchell. Chuck was a faithful, loyal, loving husband. He also was a loving, devoted father and provider for his four children.
Chuck was a hard worker with a strong work ethic. His career path varied from dispatcher, sales in advertising and real estate and management roles. He even showed an entrepreneurial spirit and started a fence building company. Chuck worked for Husky Oil as a warehouse manager and also in the scale house. He retired from this job early at the age of 52 and moved to Logan Lake, BC in 1990.
Throughout his life he enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling throughout North America in the fifth wheel. He loved Kauai, Hawaii and travelled there 5 times for vacations. Chuck and Gail celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their entire immediate family in Lihue, Hawaii. They also enjoyed many trips to Texas to visit their daughter Karen and her family.
In 2012 Chuck and Gail moved to Fort Saskatchewan, AB to be closer to their sons in their later years. They enjoyed many family outings, concerts, Oiler games, special occasion dinners and day trips exploring northern Alberta.
Chuck is predeceased by 2 grandchildren, Jessica Hatton and Christopher Kilbank. He is survived by his loving wife Gail Kilbank; his children Brian (Melody) Kilbank, Alan (Tammy) Kilbank, Mark Kilbank and Karen (Geoff) Hatton; his grandchildren August (Reagan) Baker, Eric Kilbank (Janice Sauviemacdonald), Natasha (John) MacDougall, Brandy (Jeff) LeBlanc, Andrea (Scott) Swensen, Leah (Clayton) Nolan, Matthew Hatton, Kieran Hatton; great grandchildren Krista Pearson, Ocean Lobert, Thye and Destry Baker, Nixon MacDougall, Tyson and Jackson LeBlanc, Ella and Colby Swensen.
Charles passed away in peace in the presence of loving family on March 10, 2018. He will be missed by many family and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday March 14, 2018 at Beulah Alliance Church at 1:30 pm in the chapel, 17504 98A Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T5T 5T8.
