His desire to see families stay together also led him to welcome 6 foster children into his home Sheldon, Dawn, Kimberly, Lori, Lonn and Larry.
Having a large Irish family he was also uncle Chuck to innumerable nieces and nephews.
He spent his early life in Ontario where his passion for fixing things was born. His garage in Penticton was full of all manner of parts, gears and tools if you needed something repaired it was likely Chuck had just the piece to do it and if not he would get it. He sparked the recycling and DIY movements before they were the “in” thing to do, qualities which he imbued in his children.
Chuck loved the outdoors. Hunting, camping, searching for rocks, panning for gold and scouring old ghost towns for all manner of treasure, were just a few of the ways he occupied his spare time. In his later years he learned to enjoy travel abroad having the opportunity to visit Ireland, Italy, Egypt and Mexico
A “friend of Bill W.” since 1963, he had many friends, was a mentor and role model for any who needed him. He always had snacks and coffee ready for company and happily volunteered whenever tasked at both the Catholic and Lutheran churches.
A great part of his life was spent working for the BC Ministry of Forest where he could apply his many skills at fixing things, a true “Macgyver” he was called in to help out with the provinces many forest fires long after he officially retired.
Celebration of life will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church 2800 S. Main Street Penticton BC.
