In Loving Memory of Charles Wishart
Charles Austin Wishart, 93, of Pro Tem Health Services, Gorge Road, and formerly of Boyd Avenue, Moncton, died Feb. 15 after a period of declining health.
Born in Hampton, Charles – nicknamed Benny after his father – lived a long and productive life, marked by a strong work ethic, a quiet humility and infinite patience, and a never-ending love for his family.
Charles moved to Moncton in 1951 to start his career at General Motors, where he remained until his retirement in 1980 as assistant stockroom supervisor at GM’s regional parts distribution centre on St. George Boulevard.
Charles married the love of his life, Irene Kelly of Hampton, in 1952 and together they created a home and life in Moncton. Charles was a long-time member of St. Andrews Anglican Church, where he served in numerous capacities including on vestry, as a warden, singing in the choir, and on several committees and projects. He is an honourary senior warden in the church.
Charles was also a long-time member of the Loyal Orange Lodge No. 62, and served on the board of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Moncton Region. He enjoyed old-time fiddle music, bowling, and with Irene was a member of the Charlie’s Angels Round Dance Club. He remained a crackerjack cribbage player until the final weeks of his life.
Besides his parents, Benjamin and Blanche (Crowe) Wishart, he was predeceased by his wife Irene in 2010, his sisters, Helen (Gerald) Kelly, Evelyn (Sam) Bowland, Mildred (Henry) Van Yperen, and brothers, Art (Marjorie) and Eric.
He is survived by his daughters, Dawn (Bob) LeBlanc, of Moncton, Wendy (Jim) Wilson of Quispamsis, and son, John (Charm) of Moncton, his grandchildren of whom he was so proud: Christopher, Gillian, Natalie, Jocelyn, Aislinn, Emily and Ben, two great-grandchildren, Harrison and Duncan, and a third great-grandchild (Baby Lesko) soon to be born, brother-in-law Robert Kelly (Claire), sisters-in-law Lorna Russell (Tom), and Jean Kelly, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Monday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Anglican Church, corner of Elmwood Drive and Massey Avenue. Visitation will follow cremation at Fair Haven Memorial Funeral Home, Salisbury Road, on Sunday, Feb. 18 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Andrews Church Building Fund, Alzheimers Society or charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
The family would like to thank the staff of Pro Tem, 71 Gorge Rd., for taking such compassionate care of Charles in his final years.
