Following a lengthy illness, Cecil passed peacefully at home.
During his time serving the community he was a fishing guide, barge Captain, carpenter, CFS, prevention worker, held various positions in the education field, and served in various Treaty #3 communities as a board member.
Cecil worked in many areas but his true passion was for the preservation of the nishinaabemowin language, ceremony and helping others.
Cecil was raised by his grandfather James Redsky, Esh Kwaykeeshik. James taught him about ceremony and left him with the legacy of becoming a respected Elder and Midewiwin leader.
Cecil was gentle, loving, kind, guaranteed to make you laugh all the time, he lived to make everyone laugh. Family unity was an important aspect of his life.
Cecil is survived by his wife Grace and children; Herman Redsky, Cheryl Deblois (Ray), Crystal Smith (Gary), Gaelen Copenace, Mike Adams (Michelle), Amos Paypompee (Barbara), Neil Redsky (Amanda),. siblings; Bryan, Desmond Sr. and Gwen, numerous nieces and nephews.
There is no word in anishinaabemowin for Goodbye Baamaa Miinawaa giga wabamin “I will see you again later.
Wake Service at Shoal Lake First Nations #40 on Sunday, August 5, 2018 with a Funeral Service being held on Monday, August 6, 2018 with Elders Gilbert Smith, Clarence White and Tommy White.
Pallbearers; Herman, Neil, Dakota, Gary, Luke, Storm Jared, Mike, Amos, Gaelen and Cody.
The family would like to say Gitchi-Miigwetch to Shoal Lake #40, KCA, Bimose, AAfs and the point store.
