It is with great sadness that the family of
Catherine Wemigwans
announces her passing on to the spirit world on Monday, January 15, 2018,
at the age of 66 years.
Cathy will be forever remembered by her children, Alana, Jason (Nadine) and Angela and her grandchildren Jayden, Janiyah, Kaia and Karmyn.
Cathy will also be lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters Marcel (Sylvana),
Wayne (Pamela), Marc, Simone and Lisa
as well as by her aunt Mary Elizabeth, nieces, nephews, cousins and
extended family and dear friends.
Cathy was predeceased by her mother, Mary Jane Charette (nee Wemigwans).
Cathy was a beautiful soul, soldier and mother figure to many. She was raised by her grandmother Margaret Wemigwans (predeceased) and her aunt Mary. Cathy was a huge ally and supporter of justice for First Nations people and a very active community member in Toronto. She ran the Wigwamen Seniors Group and enjoyed bingos and casino trips to Rama with the elders. « Kotnii » was very fond of her home community of South Bay (Dooganing) and never missed an opportunity to visit and prepare wreaths for the graves of her relations. We will miss her loving smiles and laughter.
Visitation
on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at Cardinal Funeral Homes, 366 Bathurst Street, Toronto.
Cathy will then be brought to her home community of South Bay, Manitoulin Island.
Visitation will start on Sunday, January 21, 2018 starting at 6:00 pm at South Bay Centre.
Funeral service will be on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 11:00 am at South Bay Centre with
burial to follow at South Bay Cemetery.
