Thorne, Carol Marie – 65, Port Royal, passed away on January 19, 2018, with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Dartmouth, NS on January 1, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Owen and Vera (Waldron) Ritcey. She was a loving wife, a proud mother and a doting grandmother. Carol graduated from Dartmouth High in 1970 and Mount Saint Vincent University in 1972. In October of that year, she married David and they relocated to the South Shore, eventually settling in Shelburne, NS to raise a family. Carol was a homemaker and office manager for her husband’s land surveying business. She was active in the community, most notably with the Lower Ohio Ladies Aide, Girl Guides and the Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia. Her passion for rug hooking continued into her retirement and she was a ‘happy hooker’ for 25 years. She was the President of the Stoney Beach Cemetery Association, carrying on a family tradition of involvement that spanned over 100 years. Carol was a people person who made friends wherever she went and was well-known for her pragmatic approach to life and feisty attitude. Carol is survived by her husband of 45 years, David; son Stephen, Chester, NS; daughter Christine (Brad McFeters) and grandsons Ryan and Kyle, Beaumont, AB; brothers Owen (Rhonda) Ritcey, Porter’s Lake, NS; Jim (Janis) Ritcey, Dartmouth, NS; sister-in-law Susan (Bill) Nelson, Bridgewater, NS; mother-in-law Noreine (late Stephen) Thorne, Port Royal, NS and several nieces and nephews.
