September 20, 1942 – November 25, 2018
Passed away with family by her side, on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital at the age of 76. Beloved wife of Joseph Nyitrai for 54 years. Loving mother of Caroline (Joe). Daughter of the late Catherina Vandersluis and Edward Wynands of the Netherlands. Carla leaves behind many cousins, nephews and nieces in both the Netherlands and Hungary.
Carla met her husband Joseph in Valkenburg, the Netherlands in 1957, where Joseph stayed after the Hungarian revolution. After writing letters for 7 years, Joseph invited Carla to Canada and they married in Red Lake, Ontario, Canada in 1964, migrating to Kitchener in the late 1960’s and starting a family the early 1970’s.
Carla was known for being an amazing cook, including Hungarian cuisine. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and had a flair for languages (speaking four of them fluently).
A private family service will be held at the Henry Walser Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place.
Thank you to all the wonderful PSWs from Paramed that helped keep Carla living in her own home for many years. A big thank you to her private PSWs Jadwiga and Robyn who were a significant help in the later stages of Carla’s illness. A special thank you to the staff at St. Mary’s General Hospital, who made sure Carla was cared for and comfortable in her final days.
