July 2, 1961 – April 8, 2018
Brian Francis McQuarrie passed away suddenly due a massive heart attack at his home in Balmertown, Ontario after a brave battle with diabetes and rental failure. Born in Halifax, he was the only son of Donald and Gladys (Travis) McQuarrie.
Brian is survived by his beautiful wife of 20 years Nga Thi Ly; her uncle and aunt Hai and Mai; his parents Donald and Gladys; daughter Amanda; maternal grandmother Joyce Travis; sisters MaryAnne (Bill Grady), Elaine (James Kerr), Darlene (Tim Higgs); nephews Mitchell Johnson and Adam (Lisa) Grady, several aunts, uncles and cousins in Nova Scotia and Ontario, as well as brothers and sisters in law in Vietnam. He was predeceased by his Hero Uncle Donnie Sandeson, paternal grandparents and mother and father in law.
Brian graduated from Charles P. Allen High in Bedford, and Dartmouth Vocational School in Accounting. He earned a CIPFM, CMA, ICIA and CPA from Arctic College. He moved to Yellowknife, NWT in 1981 followed by several posts in the N.W.T., Nunavut and Winnipeg. He was Treasurer for the Municipality of Red Lake, Ontario for the past 9 ½ years.
Brian was a NASCAR fan, especially of Richard Petty and the Earnhardt’s Sr. and Jr. He loved antique Studebakers and was Editor of the clubs’ National Newsletter. He also collected stamps, coins, license plates and was a computer gamer.
A service was held in Red Lake on April 11, 2018, and a Liturgy of the Word service will be held at 10:00 am on April 21, 2018 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth, with a reception to follow.
