Death Notice
SHENNAN, Betty – Died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice, London on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the age of 98. Betty was born in Hazeldean, Ontario on April 6, 1920, the oldest daughter of John and Edith Shennan, and beloved sister to Elsie Cowell (Ottawa), Ruth Leach (deceased), Edith Smiley (Ottawa) and Grace Shennan (deceased). She was a much loved aunt to nephews John, Malcolm and Richard Cowell, Ian, Bruce and Warren Smiley and nieces Edith Camm (“Little Edie”) and Wendy Vitter. She also had several grand nieces and nephews as well as great-grand nieces and nephews.
Her main interests throughout her life involved people of all ages and stages and the universal process of life, living, loving and learning, as well as all aspects of nature, art, music and philosophy.
Betty will be deeply missed by her family and countless friends whose lives are richer for having known her. Fly free, Betty dear – you will be lovingly remembered.
A Service of Celebration for Betty will be held at Colborne Street United Church, 711 Colborne Street, London on Saturday, October 6 at 2 p.m. Private cremation has taken place. Betty’s ashes will be interred in Ottawa at a later date.
