Obituary for
Betty Margaret Sweeney
Sweeney, Betty Margaret, age 89, of Cape Forchu, Yarmouth County, NS, passed away peacefully on October 7th 2018 at Nakile Home for Special Care while surrounded by her family. Born February 11th, 1929, in the dwelling house at Cape Forchu light station, Yarmouth County, NS. She was a daughter to the late Grace and Herbert Cunningham. Betty was beloved by all who knew her, especially her husband, children and extended family. Her gracious nature and warm hospitality was extended to all. She leaves a legacy of love and memories to all who had the honour of knowing her. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Nakile Home for Special Care for the excellent care provided for Betty. She is survived by children, Cindy (Vernon) Bustin, PEI; Stephen (Heather) Sweeney, New Minas; Miles Sweeney, Waverley; Jeffrey (Rita) Sweeney, BC; Jennifer Tynes, Dartmouth; Stewart (Gert) Sweeney, Cape Forchu; Richard (Diane) Sweeney, Halifax; Rebecca (Robert) Bekerian, Boston and Blair (Dawn) Sweeney, PEI. ; 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brothers John, Albert, and George Cunningham. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband and love of her life, Andrew Sweeney; sister, Imogene Baker; brother, Herbert Cunningham Junior, and granddaughter Sarah Bustin. Visitation will be Wednesday October 10th, 2pm to 4pm, and 7pm to 9pm from the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service to be held at Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Thursday October 11th at 2pm. Father Pat O’Meara officiating. Interment to follow in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Gilles Boudreau & Friends Cancer Help Fund; Nakile Home for Special Care; or a charity of choice. Family flowers only please. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth.
