It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Jang (Nee Mar) announces her passing at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Saanichton, BC on August 27, 2018. Betty was born in Central Saanich, BC, on July 25, 1932. Betty met her husband of 60 years Ark, in 1953. Betty and Ark were married on July 12, 1958.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Gertrude and Beverly, brother Douglas and her in-laws. Betty is survived by her husband Ark and their children, Marilyn, Wendy, Arthur (wife Cecil, Burnaby BC), and Douglas, her siblings, William, Lily, Violet, Whaley, Jack (wife Trish, children Nick and Jennifer), Jim and Patricia Mar, her sister in law Choi K. Chow (children Susan Lum, Joshua Chan and their families in USA), plus numerous extended family.
As a young woman, Betty worked at the Glen Coffee Shop and the department of motor vehicles before she married and then became a full-time mom and raised four children. She returned to work in 1974 as a hostess at The Peacock Restaurant, Sidney BC until she retired in 1991.
Betty was born into a farming family and continued her love of gardening, growing both vegetables and flowers until her health issued developed and she became a resident at ECU- 2 in the Saanich Peninsula Hospital in October 2014.
After her retirement, Betty was fortunate enough to travel to her parent’s homeland China. She loved crossword, jigsaw puzzles and playing endless games of Tetris with her children.
Mom you loved and cherished your family, your quiet strength held us together through thick and thin. We love you and will honour your memory in our hearts always and forever.
Betty’s family would like to thank the staff of ECU- 2 Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Dr. Linda Wilson and all other medical staff who cared for mom from October 2014 to August 2018.
A Burial Service will take place on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at 1:00 pm, in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation at www.sphf.ca, or a charity of your choice.
