Betty Ann Cupp (Nee Wapioke), from Iskatewizaagegan #39, passed away at the age of 72, at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora, Ontario on October 12, 2018. Nita Mih Giizhigok was of the sturgeon clan.
Betty Ann was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with her family and on the land. She enjoyed trapping, snaring, word-find puzzles, camping, cooking and snuff. She was a very hard working woman who in her late age built and moved her own log house in our family area.
Betty rejoins her loved ones; parents Nelson and Elma (nee Redsky) Wapioke, her brothers Joseph and Nelson Wapioke, her daughters Susie and Tina Oustan, and her grandson Cody Oustan. She is predeceased by her husbands, Samuel Oustan of Moose Factory and Richard Cup of Seine River.
The legacy of Betty Ann’s kind spirit, passion for creating, and love of laughing will live on through her sisters Barbara Wapioke and Deanna Hyacinthe (Archie), her daughters Shirley Oustan and Veronica Wapioke (Randy), her grandchildren Fawn Wapioke (Darrin), Maynard Mandamin, Jordan Oustan and Rayne Wapioke (Caitlyn), and her great grandchildren, Darryl, Kairn, Jerome, Jett, Jayde, and Stetson as well as many other cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
The family would like to thank Vicky Mandamin and Rhea Greene, the paramedics, the staff at Lake of Woods District Hospital, the Treaty #3 Police, the Ontario Provincial Police and the Chief and Council of Iskatewizaagegan #39 First Nation.
Traditional Wake Services will begin on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 12:00 pm at the Iskatewizaagegan First Nation Community Centre. A Traditional Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Iskatewizaagegan First Nation Community Centre with traditional burial to follow.
