Obituary of Bessie Elliott
Passed away on May 2, 2018, Bessie Elliott of Botwood. She was 99 years of age.
Bessie was born in Little Burnt Bay to John and Mary Pelley. After the death of her mother she moved to Botwood with her step sister Martha. She acquired work in Grand Falls at Staff House.
When she moved back to Botwood, she met Cecil and they were married in 1939. They had 12 children, nine boys and three girls, and also cared for six foster children. She loved being active in the community. She was a lifelong member of the Home League, a Sunday School teacher and a treasurer of the League of Mercy. She was a “worthy mistress” or member of LOBA in Botwood until it closed. She dearly loved her family and was a friend to everyone.
She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers; five sisters; her husband Cecil Elliott; sons Freeman, Wallace, Nolan, Clarence, grandchildren Velletta and David; great grandchild Baby Sooley; sons-in-law Arch Hancock and John Froud.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughters Bertha, Ivy and Maisie (Max); sons Howard, Ryburn (June), Watson (Darlene), Raymond (Connie), Randolph (Vivian), Roy (Noreen); 32 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren and an extended large number of family and friends. Captains Morgan and Lisa Hillier will conduct the funeral service from the Salvation Army Citadel, Botwood on Saturday May 5, 2018 at 2 P.M. Interment to follow at the Salvation Army cemetery, Botwood. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. Pallbearers will be her sons Randolph, Raymond and Roy, grandsons Chris and Chad, granddaughter Lawanda. Honorary pallbearer will be her son Ryburn.
Donations in Bessie’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army Citadel, Botwood.
