Murphy, Bernard « Bernie » Francis
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bernard Murphy, Age 79 of Halifax, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 27 2018 at QEII Halifax Infirmary Site surrounded by his family.
Born in Caribou Gold Mines, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Edna Murphy.
He started his career as a volunteer firefighter. When the amalgamation took place in 1969 he transferred to the Halifax Fire Department and retired in 1994.
He dabbled in plumbing and he loved to fish. His passion was carpentry and telling stories. He made cradles for all his granddaughters and many other cherished gifts. He could turn scrap wood into art.
He will be missed by his daughters, Sherry (Trevor) Vanderauwera, Tammy (Carmen Quigley) Murphy, Bernice (Steve) Murphy-Critch; 8 grandchildren, Chris (Melissa) Ladouceur, Daniel (Sarina) Ladouceur, Kimberly Viney, Morgan Zwicker, Evan Zwicker, Alyssa Zwicker, Arielle (Matt) Critch, Carly (Emily) Critch; 4 great-grandchildren, Riley and Karissa Ladouceur, Tristin and Callee Critch; brother, Charles; sister-in-law, Jane; and many nieces and nephews.
Bernie was predeceased by his son-in-law, James “Jim” Ladouceur; brother, Wesley; sister-in-law, Lynne; and his wife, Theresa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Canada, or Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at 2pm Saturday, February 3, at Rockingham United
Church, 12 Flamingo Dr, Halifax, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 601 Sackville Dr, Lower Sackville, the date and time will be available later.
