Send Sympathy Card
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Barton Jeffery Daniel Lohr on Sunday, April 1, 2018.
Bart will be lovingly remembered by: his parents Jim and Vera Lohr; his brother Brad Lohr (Kathleen); and sisters: Brenda Krentz (Ken), Jennifer Lohr, Betty Kaita (Percy) and Sharon Taekema (Jim). He will be dearly missed by numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews who loved him for his silliness and fun loving personality.
He was predeceased by his mother Mildred Lohr and his grandparents Dan & Mary Lohr and William & Augusta Dreger.
Bart was born in Steinbach, Manitoba on August 5, 1962. He was well known as a trouble maker in his younger years. His family fondly remember stories of him literally playing with fire. He was reported getting into such big fights with his older brother that the school and his mother had to organize them walking home in intervals to keep them from hurting each other. As they grew older they developed a strong friendship which had them sneaking out of the basement window on more than one occasion.
He was active in baseball and hockey from a young age. He still enjoyed golfing with his friends and family and had a strong competitive nature. All of us have fond memories of very competitive family crib, card or domino games which provided those watching with much entertainment as long as you could dodge the verbal assaults being hurled back and forth.
He was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at the age of 17 and lived with many complications from his diagnosis. Despite his health, he maintained an upbeat attitude and was usually the life of the party.
He worked in advertising sales for Golden West Radio for many years. His profession took him to Calgary and Okotoks, Alberta for a time. His adventurous, fun loving side found him also working as the ram mascot for the city of Okotoks for many years. He finished his sales career with the Winkler Times before his illness kept him from working. He was a born salesman and had a gift for gab that many will remember.
In recent years, Bart had found a much-loved companion in his dog Manny, who will miss his friend very much.
He truly loved his family and staying close to them was an important part of his life. He always demonstrated a great deal of love, pride and support for those who were closest to him. Some of our fondest memories of Bart are from family gatherings. He was at his best surrounded by those he loved and who loved him.
All who knew Bart will miss his energetic presence, sense of humour and commitment to family.
Funeral service for Bart will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Steinbach, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, 676 Portage Ave, Winnipeg MB R3G 0M4 or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
