Obituary of Barbara Mazi
It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara Jane Roth announces her passing on Wednesday January 17, 2018 in Hillview at Grandview Lodge, Dunnville at the age of 83. After a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, and the many trials that come along with this disease, Barbara’s tired and frail body grew weak and with her loving family by her side, she departed this earth to be reunited with her husband Anthony “Tony” Carl Mazi (2016). Barbara was the eldest child, born to the late Harvey and Mildren (Webber) Roth. On October 6th, 1956 she married Antholy Carl Mazi, and their strong commitment to marriage permitted them to celebrate 60 years together as husband and wife. Their life saw the birth of two daughters Rhonda Evelyn Jayne Harvie (Frank Hajling) and Carla Joanne Vaughan (Bill). Her love and support as a mother was remarkable and she was the true meaning of the word “mother”. She proudly acknowledged her importance of being a Nana. Barbara was extremely proud of her grandchildren Caitlyn Jaine Barbas (Tyler), Connor Anderson Harvie (pre-deceased 2011), Mallory Jane Vaughan and Megan Patricia Vaughan. Her Nana brag book took a permanent position in her purse and was proudly revealed to all who knew her. Her bragging rights went along with her commitment as a Nana. She was only a phone call away to pick them up after school, drive them to their destinations or care for them any time of the day or night. Nana taught them how to properly roll out cookie dough and put the “fork” markings on top for that professional look. She sat for hours at a time building creations from the old tin cans filled with tinker toys. She made sure that Poppa made an extra trip to pick the “toonie Tuesday” special from KFC along with the box of Timbits to have as a treat. Barbara proudly cheered them on and did her best to attend their hockey and baseball games, figure skating lessons, and award ceremonies. Most importantly, she always made sure that they checked the “sock” drawer, where miraculously, there would be the individual size boxes of smarties hidden at the bottom of the drawer. Her love for her grandchildren was immeasurable! Barbara was famous for hosting her Sunday night roast beef dinner for family, friends and whoever happened to drop by for a Sunday afternoon visit. She was a long time member at Faith Lutheran Church were she displayed her musical talent as one of their organists, as well as taking an active role in contributing her crochet, knitted and crafted items to their annual bazaar. Barbara was employed at the Dental Arts Building as a Dental Assistant for Dr. J.J. Telesnicki and was often referred to as “the one that holds my hand” during dental procedures. Her gentle touch, caring disposition and friendly face earned her that high distinguished title. Barbara was a loving sister to Marlene (Douglas) Hines, Howard (Beverly) Roth and Gary Roth (2013). She was loved by many nieces and nephews, and in-laws who held a special place within her heart. Barbara Jane Mazi was living proof to her family that life doesn’t come with a manual, it comes with a “Mother”. Friends will be received for visitation at BALLARD MINOR FUNERAL HOME, 315 Broad St. E., Dunnville on Sunday, January 21 from 3 – 5 p.m. A funeral Service will take place at Faith Lutheran Church, 1308 Hwy 3 on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Dunnville. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Connor Harvie Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Grandview Lodge Residents Council would be greatly appreciated by the family.
