Obituary Overview
Barbara Strong
Barbara Helen Strong (nee Amy) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on July 13, 2018.
Barb will be deeply missed and always remembered by her husband Bill, children Jessica and Paul, mother Mildred, sisters Lucille, Lisa, Myra, Jacqueline, and their families. She will also be remembered by many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her father John (Jack) Amy.
Born July 9, 1954, Barb was raised in Darlingford, MB and moved to Winnipeg upon completing high school. Her career was spent at Manitoba Hydro where she made many long-lasting friendships. A consummate hostess, she loved to entertain and would delight guests with her adventurous culinary choices. She was very musically gifted and enjoyed playing the piano and singing in many choirs. Following retirement, she was an active member of the Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg, applying her organizational and negotiating skills as their recital chair, and securing talented performers for their concert series. She loved movies, never tiring of her top ten favourites, and was an avid fan of curling and tennis, especially Roger Federer.
Barb and Bill were married in 1975, Jessica was born in 1986 and Paul in 1989. She loved nothing more than spending time with her talented kids, loving husband, and of course, her dog Ajax. Barb was the most generous and kind person, and we will miss her so much.
Thank you to all the compassionate people at CancerCare who helped during Barb’s illness. Special thanks to Dr. Seftel, Kevin, Sherese, Tamara, Dawn, all the nurses in Clinic 3, the Hematology staff and the HSC staff on GD-6. You are amazing people.
A celebration of life will be held at the United Church in Meadowood, 1111 Dakota St. on Friday, July 20 2018 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barb’s name to CancerCare Manitoba.
