Barbara Ann Cormier

CORMIER, Barbara Ann
Passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit of the QEII Hospital in Halifax on April 3, 2018 with family at her side. Born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 7, 1931 she was the only daughter of Martin and Corinne (Adams) Barry. She moved to Montreal the same year and later attended the Villa Marie Convent. At the age of 19 she moved to Halifax, with her family. She graduated from Miss Murphy’s Business School in 1950 and then worked with Lee & Martin Chartered Accountants until 1957.
She was an active curler at the Mayflower Curling Club and tennis player at the North West Arm Club. Mom enjoyed all gatherings with family and friends, especially Christmas, Easter and summer vacations. She was also a tole painter for several decades and liked to garden and bake treats.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Paul; three sons Greg (Fay), Halifax; David (Theresa), Lower Sackville; Tom (Maureen), Bermuda; grandchildren Craig (Emily Wheeler), Dartmouth and Michelle, Whistler BC; and brother Robert (Gail) Barry, Falmouth.
She was predeceased by both parents and her brother Martin Jr.
At her request there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Catherine of Siena Parish, 6476 Bayers Road, Halifax on Monday April 16th at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow. Interment will take place at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville after the reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
