Avery Frederick Crawley
Crawley, Avery Frederick, age 65 of Dartmouth passed away July 11, 2018 at Ocean View Continuing Care.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of Elsie (Glasgow) and the late Alfred Crawley.
Avery was a strong believer in Christ. He had a passion for teaching and talking to people about Salvation. He attended Acadia Divinity College and received a Diploma in Theology. He served as chair Vice President of East Preston Rate Payers Association for several years. Avery was a former Social Worker for the Department of Community Services. Avery’s greatest love was for the wilderness; he loved to fish and hunt. He was gifted in wood craftsmanship, carving walking and talking sticks from the roots of trees and was a member of Visual Arts Nova Scotia for local artists. He believed we should all be connected with Creation. He enjoyed spending time with his family and being a grandfather gave him great joy. Avery was a great conversationalist and loved to have debates. He enjoyed life to the fullest.
Avery is survived by his daughter Amanda (Patrick) Doherty, Dartmouth; sons Avery (Tracey) Crawley, Halifax, Frederick (Ebony) Crawley, Dartmouth, Leon Crawley, Vancouver, BC; grandchildren, Shantaya (Mark) Crawley, Tyler, Asja, Raya, Myah, Reilly, Elizabeth, Naomi and Olivia; great-grandchildren, Denekia and Colin.
He is also survived by sisters, Linda Simpson, Ontario, Iris (Norman) Sabourin, Montreal, Yvonne Colley, East Preston, Sylvia Crawley, Ontario; sisters-in-law Vivian Crawley, Ontario, Elsie Crawley, Dartmouth, and Erma Crawley, Montreal, Que.; brothers, Ross Crawley, Dartmouth, Alvin (Glenda) Crawley, Dartmouth, Terry (Anita) Crawley, Shubenacadie, Anthony (Sherry) Crawley, Ontario, and Benjamin Crawley, Ontario; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Elizabeth (Brooks) Crawley; sisters Beatrice and Elsie Crawley; brothers Joseph, John and Glen Crawley.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Tuesday July 17, 2018 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. The funeral service will take place at 1pm on Wednesday July 18 in the funeral home chapel, Dr. Rev. Joyce Ross officiating with Pastor Wanda Lawrence assisting.
Burial to take place in the East Preston United Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Kidney Foundation of Nova Scotia.
