Aurelie was predeceased by her parents Leon and Palmyre Mahy, her first husband Alphonse Bauche, her second husband Gerard Gagnon, as well as many loved relations and friends.
Mom was born on September 17, 1928 and grew up in south western Manitoba. She was a strong woman who overcame many hardships, growing up during the depression of the 1930’s. She was widowed in 1950, leaving her with a 2-month-old daughter, Eva, to raise on her own. Eventually she moved to Winnipeg to work and there she met her second husband. Together they raised their two girls, Eva and Diane. When Mom first moved to Winnipeg, she worked at Jeanne’s Bakery. The memory of those days, and working with the Van Landeghem family, were special to Mom.
Mom enjoyed gardening, knitting, baking (bread and cookies!) and hosting family dinners. There are many children who have loved a little knitted doll or a finger puppet that Mom made and donated to the Children’s Hospital. She spent many hours volunteering at bazaars to raise money for Grey Street United Church and for the Independent Order of Foresters (IOF). For many years, Mom bowled in 5-pin leagues, one with Dad and one on her own. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling and camping. Most of their travels were across Canada and some into the northern United States, sometimes on their own or with family and some trips with their friends from IOF.
We will miss Mom’s laughter, her mischievous grin and those knowing “looks” when one of us did something that caught her attention.
A celebration of Aurelie’s life will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 2, 2018 at Grey Street United Church, 651 Sandhurst Avenue Winnipeg, MB.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the health care personnel who saw Mom through these last couple of difficult years. There were many changes and numerous moves. The working angels who cared for Mom made these days and nights bearable for Mom and for all of us.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grey Street United Church, 651 Sandhurst Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2L 1B1 or to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, 1-452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3Y1G4.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Aurelie Sylvie Gagnon 2018..
