Audrey Allen
Our mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother passed on March 28, 2018 at the age of 95. Audrey left us gracefully and with dignity, just as she had lived her life.
Born in Halifax on March 2, 1923, Audrey was the daughter of the late Grant and Violet McGrath. She was first and foremost a loving wife to her late husband Frederick Herald and devoted mother to her seven children. Mom had many talents; sewing, knitting, quilting as well as her main love, oil and watercolor painting. She was a Sunday School teacher, a past member of the St. Paul’s and St. John’s XXIII’s Catholic Women’s League and a loyal volunteer for Birthright.
Mom was predeceased by her son Frederick Herald II; daughter Joanne Nelson; brother Richard McGrath, sisters Beryl Covey, Jeanette Tindell, Kaye Young, Barbara Ranger and Joan Ruggles. Sister in law Nellie McGrath, brothers in law; Brian Tindell, Henry Young, George Ranger, Andre Bernard and Ben Ruggles. Son in law, Robert Shaw and daughter in law, Trish Allen.
Mom will be sadly missed by her sister, Carol Bernard, daughter Gretchen Shaw, Dartmouth; sons Christopher (Suzanne) Bridgewater; Peter, Dartmouth; Scott (Patti Hirtle) Bridgewater; Andrew (Val Henneberry) Sambro Head and daughter in law Joan E. Allen, Summerside. Audrey leaves behind 16 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law.
Cremation has taken place. A service will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 1:30 pm at the Atlantic Funeral Home, Dartmouth. Reception following.
