ANTHONY JOHN GOERTZEN BLOCK
Anthony John Goertzen Block was born June 2, 1997 and passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on July 16, 2018. From the beginning of his life, he was always a boy filled with smiles and laughs. Baseball was a constant in Anthony’s life from the time he was young to the day he passed away. He played baseball in his younger years for various Fort Garry community teams, winning the city championship in 2010. In Anthony’s adult life he really expressed that love for the game through the kids he coached. Anthony had been coaching the AAA PeeWee Winnipeg South Chiefs for the past two years where he shared that passion for the game to a younger generation. Anthony was also a part time student at Canadian Mennonite University and worked at a daycare – Kids Inc . Previously he had worked at Montessori, the Y Daycare, and LifeWorks. Anthony also had a passion for music as he taught himself to play guitar at a young age. He was a great cook, which is well known to everyone around him. Anthony had a quiet faith. He was baptized at St Margaret’s Anglican Church on March 22, 2008.
Whatever Anthony did, he loved doing it. He was a caring guy who poured his heart out to the kids at his work and the kids he coached. Anthony always shared stories about his coaching and his work as he saw potential in every kid he was around. It didn’t matter to Anthony who the kid was or what sort of problems the kid faced, Anthony was going to work with them and never give up on them. Anthony is gone way too soon and will be deeply missed by his parents, Kathy and Steve, and Terry and Heather. He will be deeply missed by his brother Noah, his sisters Johanna and Bronwyn. He will also be missed by his Nana, his Aunt Yvonne, the rest of his family, and his dog Ryleigh. Anthony will be missed by his friends and all the kids that Anthony’s life had a positive impact on. Anthony was a caring, loyal and special guy who loved what he did and did that to the day he passed away. That’s how he should be remembered.
