“No beauty shines brighter than that of a good heart”
With sadness, we announce the passing of Anna Elizabeth Kajpust, our mother, grandmother and sister. Anna slipped away peacefully at Calvary Place Personal Care Home on June 10, 2018 at the age of 92 years.
Anna will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Jim (Karen), and Rolfe (Melissa). Oma’s memory will be cherished by her three grandchildren, Daniel, Holly, and David. Anna also leaves behind her sisters Freda (Richard), and Christel (Rudy) and their children, and her niece Jola (Stanley), and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Anna was predeceased by her husband Walter, her parents Joseph and Mathilda, and her brothers Alfred and Leopold.
Anna was born on August 23, 1925 in Lvov, Poland. After spending the war in Germany, the family emigrated to Winnipeg in 1948. She met her husband Walter in a movie theatre and they married in 1952. Anna worked several jobs, but most enjoyed the time she spent working at the famous Oscar’s Delicatessen. In her later years, she and Walter enjoyed the cottage they built at Grand Beach.
Anna was a blessing and dedicated her life to helping others. Small acts of kindness were a ritual for her, and a day wouldn’t go by where she wasn’t doing something for someone. She also loved to cook, and like so many of her generation, she rarely used a cook book. Her recipes consisted of a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and a whole lot of love. Family and friends will fondly remember her perogies, cabbage rolls, potato pancakes, raisin bread, rum torte, cheese cake, and Sunday chicken dinners. She always made enough to send home a care package of leftovers.
The family greatly appreciates the superior care and genuine love given by the staff of Calvary Place Personal Care Home. They became a welcomed part of Anna’s extended family.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday June 15 at Cropo Funeral Chapel – 1442 Main Street. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Blvd. Winnipeg, Manitoba R3P 2T5
Our dear sweet mother requested this poem be included in her obituary…
“If tomorrow starts without me,
please try to understand,
that an angel came and called my name
and took me by the hand;
she said my place was ready
in a heaven far above,
and that I’d have to leave behind
all those I dearly love.
So when tomorrow starts without me,
don’t think we’re far apart,
for every time you think of me,
I’m right here in your heart.”
All those who knew Anna were truly blessed. She was, and will continue to be, an inspiration to us all.
