Obituary for Andy Feniak
With tremendous sadness, the Feniak family is announcing the passing of Andrew – son, brother and uncle, aged 55 on Thursday, August 16, 2018. Despite the difficulties he faced throughout his life, he showed us all a better way to be. He was an eternal optimist, always ready with a smile, a joke, and a chat; he was slow to anger and quick to forgive. He had that special ability to find joy everywhere, and most importantly to share that joy with those around him. He will be forever missed and remembered with love and affection.
Andrew was a hard worker, and spent his adult life volunteering for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, first in London, then in Petrolia. During his 35 years at St. Vincent, he found a place to contribute to others, and a wonderful fellowship of coworkers and customers. Through his work and connections at St. Vincent, Andrew also found his faith in the Catholic Church, which sustained him and enriched his life.
Andrew was a man of many interests; in his younger days, he ran daily and participated in 5 km races. Fishing was a passion he pursued at the family cottage; it never mattered if he caught anything, he was happy with the companionship he found with his fishing buddy on the lake. Andrew loved to play cards; he was a pro at cribbage, euchre and Little Whitefish rummy. He had a vast collection and great knowledge of music and movies, which he enjoyed when there were no good sporting events on TV. He loved watching football, baseball, hockey or golf. When his nieces and nephew were younger, Andrew could always be counted on to read “one more book!”, and he was a loving, gentle uncle. No activity of Andrew’s was more important to him than socializing – at home, at St. Vincent, at the local Tim’s, at church, wherever he found himself, he was ready to talk, banter, and listen. His ability to make friends was astounding.
Most importantly, Andrew loved his family, and we loved him. Andrew is survived by his parents, George and Mary, siblings, Mark and Alison, sister-in-law, Serena, nephew, George, and nieces, Jessica, Marin, Samantha and Katie. We will always remember him fondly. Rest in peace, Andrew, we love you and will miss you.
The funeral is to be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at St. Philip’s Parish, 415 King St., Petrolia. Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to either the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Lambton County Developmental Services (lcdspetrolia.ca).
