1923-2018
Amy passed away peacefully, on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the age of 95. Beloved wife of the late Nick Novakowski. Loving mother of Kent (Lynda) and the late E. Nicholas. Dearest sister of the late Forrest (Vera), Eileen (Dag), Inez, and Lois. Amy will be missed by her grandchildren Braden (Laurin), Galen (Adrienne), and Devon. She was the proud great grandmother of Evelyn. She will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews and extended family in western Canada and the US. Amy started life on a ranch in southern Alberta, growing up during the hard times of the Depression. She spent many years after graduating from Normal School, as a social worker and teacher in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, where she met and married Nick. After moving to Ottawa in the 1960s, she returned with her family which now included Kent and Nicholas, every summer to her parent’s family farm now located near Humboldt, Saskatchewan. She retained a life-long love of the land and relished time at her and Nick’s tree farm near Almonte, Ontario. She also loved gardening and continued to putter in her garden in Ottawa well into her late 80s. Thanks to the staff from Governors Walk Retirement Home, the palliative care team from Carefor, and Nathalie Tardif for their care and compassion.
A private family burial will take place at Highland Park Cemetery at a later date.
