Amelia Margaret Pal July 31 1927 September 27 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Amelia Margaret Randle was born to Nira and George Randle. She grew up on the family farm several miles east of High River, Alberta with her sisters, Ellen and Linora and brothers, Reuben and Fred. Amelia and Linora rode their horse Smokey to Windsor and Little Bow schools for four years before attending school in High River. Amelia loved her horses growing up: Smokey, then Harry and especially Vino.
Amelia had a happy childhood filled with many gatherings of the extended family. In 1946, Amelia attended the University of Alberta and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. She loved U of A, and joined the women’s fraternity, Pi Beta Phi, where she was an active member and alum for over 60 years. In 1949, Amelia took her registered dietitian’s training at Hart House, at the University of Toronto. Her working career included being a dietician in Swift Current and Calgary and teaching at Vermillion College. As District Home Economist in Calgary, she worked with local 4H clubs, published recipes and food guides, and even spoke on the radio regarding nutrition. Amelia was intelligent, creative, and hard-working throughout all her life, especially in support of her family.
In 1959, Amelia met Arpad Pal and a year later, they were married. Their son, Stephen was born 5 years later and the family resided on Crocus Road in northwest Calgary with many wonderful neighbours. Amelia and Art had many friends and family in Calgary where they lived for 53 happy years. They were active members of Pleasant Heights United Church, today Wild Rose United Church.
Amelia was a talented gardener famous for her beautiful roses, as well as an expert chef, hosting many wonderful dinners for her family and friends. Amelia and Art enjoyed travelling, especially to California and Hawaii.
In 2013, Amelia and Art moved to Victoria, BC, a block away from the home of Stephen, his wife, Carol and their daughters, Meagan and Danika. Amelia loved her family with all her heart and expressed her kind spirit through thoughtful words and actions. She was the driving force in the completion of “A Randle Family Comes to Alberta,” a book detailing the history of her family and preserving their story and hers for many generations to come. Amelia will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by many.
A Service of Reflection and Prayer for Amelia will take place on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11:00am at Victoria Alliance Church, 1792 Townley Street, Victoria, BC.
A Celebration of Life for Amelia will take place on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 1:00pm at Wild Rose United Church, 1317 1st Street NW, Calgary, Alberta.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
