The family of Amber Fraser Stairs is sad to
announce his death at the Dr. Everett Chalmer’s Hospital in
Fredericton, January 3, 2018.
Amber is survived by
his children: daughters Beverly (Rod Stears) and Sara (Bruce Scanlan)
and son Derrick; his brother Garnet (Mary Lou) and sister Joan (Ted
Pead); and his stepchildren, David, Terry, Laura and Sara Trainor and
their children.
He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Nikola
and Connor Stears and Laura, Audrey and David
Scanlan.
Amber is predeceased by his parents Henry Stairs
and Julia (MacElwain) Stairs, brother John, sister Edith Miller and
his second wife, Geraldine (Trainor)
Stairs.
Amber retired as a cryptographer from the
Canadian Armed Forces, receiving a Special Service Medal for his
service in Canadian Forces Station Alert. As a member of the
peacekeeping forces in the Middle East, Amber enjoyed many adventures,
including swimming in the Red Sea and climbing to the top of the
pyramids at Giza. Following his retirement, Amber worked at the Saint
John Press Club and later drove taxi in Fredericton where he could
partake in his favourite pastime –
conversation.
A favourite topic of conversation was sports and
nobody knew sports better than Amber. A voracious reader, Amber passed
this habit on to all his children. Upon losing his eyesight, Amber
continued this passion with audiobooks, and was extremely appreciative
of the service provided by the Moncton Public Library. Despite losing
his eyesight, surviving two types of cancer, being diabetic and
partially deaf, Amber never complained and was always happy and
grateful for the life he led. Amber helped save the lives of many,
making well over 100 blood donations.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at
Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, on
Saturday January 6th 2018 from 2-4
PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the CNIB (NB),
Moncton Public Library, Canadian Diabetes Association, or Canadian
Cancer Society (NB) are appreciated.
Bishop’s Funeral Home (458-1885) have
been entrusted with the arrangements.
