OBITUARY
Alice Mary BOYES
15 July , 1931 – 1 April , 2018
It is with great love and sadness that the family of Alice Boyes announces her passing on April 1, 2018 at the age of 86 years. She was the only daughter of Andrew and Rose Hryciw of Edmonton, and was recently predeceased by her only brother Emil Hryciw.
Alice loved her family most of all and is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 62 years, James “Jim” Boyes, their four married children; Jim (Sandra) Edmonton, Diane Herbert (Dale) Abbotsford, Joan Meister (Dale) Calgary, and Gordon (Donna-May) Abbotsford; grandchildren: Katrina, Kerry, Christine, Dylan, Andrea, Gary, Dane. Kohl, Luke, Kaila, Amy, Jesse; sister-in-law Donna Paynton (Burns Lake) and many nieces and nephews.
Alice was born and grew up in Cardiff, AB, attended high school in Morinville and graduated from nursing at the Edmonton General Hospital. She began her nursing practice with an adventure that led her to Mayo, Yukon where she soon met her husband to be. Jim was enjoying his own Yukon adventure at the time and they were “meant to be”. Jim and Alice were married in Edmonton in 1955. They raised their family while moving from the Yukon to Edmonton to Vancouver to Toronto and back to Edmonton, all the while establishing a network of lifelong friendships. Alice practiced nursing for several years in the maternity ward at the Scarborough General Hospital and then worked for AADAC in Edmonton in the methadone clinic. Alice and Jim retired to White Rock, B.C. in 1989, where they developed another wonderful group of friends and most recently moved to Abbotsford to be closer to family.
Mom was an active member of the Newcomers Alumni, loved playing cards and games with friends and family, and kept in touch with the Yukoners Association. She was always happy planning “the next trip”, whether it was a family reunion to Horse Lake, heading south to campsites in the States or flying to somewhere new. She was a stickler for detail, a wonderful organizer, and loved people and socializing. Never one to hold back, you always knew where you stood with Alice.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church, 2777 Townline Rd. Abbotsford, BC, with lunch to follow. Timing for visitation and graveside are still to be determined.
